Modern slavery statement

Introduction and commitment

Modern slavery and human trafficking are among the gravest abuses of human rights, and the risk exists in every sector and country. PDQ Works Ltd (“PDQ”, “we”, “us” and “our”) has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, and we are committed to acting against it in our own operations and our supply chain.

This is a voluntary statement. PDQ is below the £36 million turnover threshold at which the Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires one, but we publish it because the commitment matters and because the organisations we work with expect it. PDQ acknowledges its responsibilities and commits to complying with the provisions of the Act, which means keeping both our employment practices and our supply chains under ongoing review.

We do not enter into business with any organisation, in the UK or abroad, that knowingly takes part in slavery, servitude or forced or compulsory labour. No labour used in providing our services is obtained through slavery or human trafficking, and we adhere to the standards required of us under UK employment law.

Our business and structure

PDQ is a UK manufacturing-data and industrial innovation consultancy. We are a private company registered in England and Wales (company number 17002817), with its registered office at 7 Yorke Gate, Watford, England, WD17 4NQ. PDQ is an independent company and is not part of a group.

Our people are a small mix of directors, employees and associates or contractors. This statement covers the period since the company was incorporated.

What modern slavery means

PDQ considers modern slavery to include:

• human trafficking;
• forced labour, through mental or physical threat;
• being owned or controlled by an employer through abuse, or the threat of abuse;
• being dehumanised or treated as a commodity, bought or sold as property;
• having freedom of movement restricted or removed.

Our supply chains

Given the work we do, our supply chain is short. It consists mainly of:

• IT and software services, such as hosting, cloud tools and hardware;
• professional services, such as accountancy, legal and insurance;
• subcontractors or delivery partners, where we work alongside others on a client engagement.

Our operations and the suppliers we rely on are predominantly UK-based.

Our assessment of risk

We consider our exposure to modern slavery and human trafficking to be low. Three things drive that assessment:

• our operations and supply chain are UK-based, in a country where the prevalence of modern slavery is low;
• our workforce is skilled and professional, with little or no reliance on temporary, low-skilled or agency labour, which is a key factor in reducing that risk;
• our supply chain is short and made up of established vendors.

Our policies

As a small company, we rest on a clear commitment against modern slavery and on our compliance with UK employment law, rather than on a large suite of formal policies. As the business grows, we will develop our policies in step with it (see Section 9).

The steps we take

Having regard to section 54(4) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, PDQ takes the following steps to make sure modern slavery is not taking place in our business or our supply chain:

• we carry out right-to-work checks on everyone we employ;
• we pay at least the National Minimum Wage;
• we choose established suppliers and expect them to comply with the law, including the Act where it applies to them;
• we protect anyone who raises a concern about slavery or trafficking from victimisation, even if what they raise turns out to be mistaken;
• we take any allegation seriously and investigate it promptly.

To our knowledge, PDQ has not done business with any organisation found to have involved itself in modern slavery.

Further steps

As PDQ grows, we will:

• keep the risk of modern slavery under review as the business and its supply chain develop;
• develop our policies and supplier checks proportionately, in step with that growth;
• keep this statement under review and update it.
